Waters of the Moon
Fri. Apr. 3, 2009
Past the periodic whir of central heat can be heard the
raspy barking of a fox in the night. Later the delicious drumming of
raindrops spattering on & off from the roof seems dreamlike. Waning toward
its cyclical disappearance the Moon grown New brings blessed rainfall again.
Morning comes hushed with fog that the first hours of daylight dissolve.
Terraces of veggies have been planted in Paradise Garden & all kinds of
things are sprouting, lifting, unfurling into sunlight.
Please pause long enough to close your eyes & attune to what is going on in
Nature. FEEL the roots sinking deeper, JOIN the sap rising, foliage dancing
upward in leafy spirals, growing toward bud & flowering into airy brilliance
with springtime. As this time of year invokes the Songs of Life, the
assurance of renewal & hope from you cells, so on a vaster time-scale 2009
is the transitional year for the Earth. There is nothing to fear, so long as
you are willing to evolve rapidly.
Humanity awakens to our crucial role in our own survival. Just as we do
individually in our personal growth, humanity creates its own challenges in
order to learn & grow. I'm listening deep at my core to the sunlight
streaming in my window, to the breeze that tosses treetops in a dance, then
releases them again to rest. As the world breathes, keep breathing with the
world.
The great Welsh poet Dylan Thomas writes: "The force that through the green
fuse drives the flower / Drives my green age."

Confessions of a Tree Worshiper
Fri. Mar. 6, 2009
The Boat of the Moon waxes through the lunar month toward
its full phase next week. Cool stars flung glimmering across the heavenly
vault of predawn silently witness the limitless mystery of existence.
Curious warbles & ratchety croakings of a large leopard frog embroider the
mild velvety darkness of Paradise Garden.
My primary spiritual practice when I have a question or wish to center
myself in better balance is to go out into the woods & sit among the trees.
When my attention launches out from my thoughts into direct mindful
awareness of my natural surroundings, the mental chatter in my head clicks
OFF. I'm able to feel fully present, at least for a while.
In such awareness of inner stillness it's nothing paranormal or supernatural
for boundaries to dissolve & to feel more connected with the Source in
Nature than disconnected from anything at all! The primary message I've been
getting for many years is simply "Be like a tree; sink your roots deep into
the Earth & spread your branches high among the stars!"
Sitting with open awareness, back resting against a tree, parallel to the
trunk, allows human nature to merge with the vertical flow of life-force in
the tree. To me, trees are not emotional beings prone to human fears or
limitations, rather I feel every tree feels connected with all other trees.
There's more a sense of Primeval Forest, than individuality.
WARNING: LIFE-CHANGING!!! Please--please PLEASE take a few minutes to
connect with this video & watch the astounding oceanographer Sylvia Earle
deliver the finest talk about the future of our planet that I have ever
seen; this one changed my life about a week ago:

BTW--We now have a wonderful selection of new spiritual/awareness-enhancing
books at Rancho Deluxe. We also carry books & oracle decks created by the
amazing artist & teacher Rowena Pattee Kryder. Please check out the new SCP

The Forest Primeval lives in the stardust of your DNA just as the ancestors
of all humanity once lived in the emerald canopies of that forest! It's
there for you in your own heart--everything you need.

Cosmic Opossum Visitation
Wed. Feb. 18, 2009
Late afternoon--what I call "The Time of Long Shadows" creeps into the
lovely Paradise Garden where we live. Supper is almost ready & I go outside
again to refill the birdbath outside the kitchen window where our fabulous
feathered friends come & go.
I stop in my tracks. Beside the lily pond I spy what at first I take for a
raccoon or feral cat . . . only it's a mangy, tufty looking old possum
crouched by the water's side.
I don't want to startle the creature; it may have come for a drink. As I
quietly angle around for a better look, it doesn't move. Perfectly still.
Investigating I see the animal appears to be sick, or even dying. It
certainly LOOKS quite awful, tufty & raw like a giant rat. Well, adult
opossums aren't pretty anyway, not like the babies.
I quietly summon Tom & we observe respectfully. "Well, if he's come here to
die, maybe we should leave him in peace," Tom says wisely. "OK," I say,
following him into the house, resisting my urge to get further involved.
"Maybe," Tom says, "he's just playing possum." Sure enough, when I check a
few minutes later, no sign. Yet another message of Animal Medicine:
NOT-DOING can be more important than what we do. What we choose not to do--
perhaps not judging, not criticising, non-interference or simply surrender
to what IS--rather than struggling to control a situation . . . MAY prove
far more powerful.
Pause. Take a deep breath & listen. Your heart tells you: we already live on
the New Earth!
(NOTE: My huge apologies to Amanda Mora, whose concert at Suzanna's Kitchen
on Thursday, February 19th, I listed last time as being in January. OOPS!
Anyway, she's an amazing talent, & a delightful, inspiring, wonderful human
being. Go see her & celebrate with this wonderful artist!)

Slowing Down to the Speed of Light
Thu. Jan 29, 2009
Between the star-like golden glow of 2 beeswax candles from Rancho Deluxe,
the Ming Aralia plant that I sit meditating before provides a "Living Image"
or focus of an actual life-form. Thus my awareness doesn't get so lost in
abstract thought. Though I keep it there to represent the Tree of Life, the
World Tree or World Axis, it's simply a wonderful organism whose presence I
enjoy tuning into.
Seems my meditation becomes deeper & deeper as I have realized that one
"fact" from physics applies totally to human awareness. As Dr. Einstein
imagined all those years ago . . . if you are moving at Light Speed, which
he called "c," or 186,000 miles per second as photons in space move, time
stops. Or it does not exist as we may imagine it to be c = timeless =
Eternal Now. Love-Light.
Whenever we say "I don't have time," I realize: Actually, time is the only
thing we really HAVE! If we say, "I haven't slowed down enough to . . ." I
think: Why NOT? Slowing down deliberately, at least now & then, is crucial.
We live in a period of planetary, cultural & personal acceleration as we're
moving toward Singularity, as the rate of change charted on a 2-armed graph
moves upward exponentially. There's no "woo-woo" or metaphysics about this,
it's simply a fact that we're heading faster & faster toward a radical shift
into what's been called the New Earth.
Tom's just reminded me that we're experiencing an imaginary global fiscal
crisis based on imaginary money--not that people are not experiencing this.
However it's all in our minds. With a leap of awareness triggered by
gratitude & awareness of the abundant universe we live in, we leap & the net
appears! Fear dissolves into Love-Light & we reconnect with Source!
My precious & beloved SCP friends . . . seems the inner & outer realities we
experience are merely reflections of one another, as we ARE a microcosm of
the macrocosm & in fact . . . all those dualities are actually One.
